Cyril Jackson Education Support Centre Curriculum
Our curriculum is a practical example of our Motto and Mission Statement. All our outcomes are concerned with promoting independence in all areas of our student's lives. With this in mind the curriculum has been divided into three learning areas - Career Education, Independent Living and Leisure and Recreation. We also offer a range of option areas provided by the main campus as well as specialised individual programs. The Curriculum is linked directly to the Department of Education and Training's Curriculum Framework.
Negotiated Curriculum
In order to achieve a smooth transition from school to work or further education, each student has an "Individual Transition Plan"(I.T.P.) developed and followed until they leave Cyril Jackson.
This plan forms the cornerstone of the student's pathway from school to the world of work and independence. These plans document curriculum priorities, goals, specific and general need, as well as plotting the pathway for each student to follow during their stay at the Centre.
These I.T.P.'s, often referred to as a "Negotiated Curriculum Plan", are drawn up by all stake holders involved with the student's future. This includes the individual student, parents, teachers, and service providers, outside agencies and in some cases employers. From the I.T.P. teaching strategies and goals relevant to the individual student's special needs are developed. These I.T.P.'s are reviewed twice a year.
