Learning Environment
The learning environment at the Support Centre is based on the inclusion model. We are located within Cyril Jackson Senior Campus and our students access various mainstream courses as options. We have full wheelchair access.
Staff
CJ's staff consists of a Principal, Registrar, four fulltime Teachers, four Education Assistants and one part time and two fulltime Social Trainers. The teachers all have qualifications in Special Needs education.
Enrolment
The Centre has a maximum enrolment of 40 students. Our students have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and we cater for most physical disabilities. We have three distinct groupings ranging from high to low support needs. To enroll students must be assessed by a school psychologist to meet Education Support criteria and all placements must go through the Swan District Education Office Placement Committee. The Centre's Registrar is able to help with all enrolment queries.
Public Transport
The school is adjacent to Ashfield Station on the Midland train line.
Class Attendance Times
School hours are from 8:30 am to 2:20 pm. Students will be advised by their teacher or Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) team of altered start/finish times due to recreational activities or Work Experience Programs.
School Development Days
(student free days) are set aside for school planning and professional development - see events calendar.
Dress Standard
All students are required to dress in clean, sensible and safe clothing suited to weather conditions and planned activities. Inappropriate logos, slogans or wording on shorts, shirts, etc is not acceptable. Midriff and low cut tops are considered unsuitable dress.
Absences
Parents / carers should notify the Centre in the morning if students are not attending that day. A note explaining the absence should be sent with the student when they return to school. Lengthy unexplained absences may result in disenrolment and loss of Centrelink Allowance.
