Yoga and Mindfulness sessions take place on a weekly basis and are an opportunity for students to practise a range of breathing exercises, yoga stretches and mindful meditation to assist with their overall health and wellbeing. Students begin each session by ‘checking in’ with one another to gauge how everyone is feeling.
The session then moves into guided breathing techniques where students practise breathing exercises that assist in calming the nervous system. Following this, students are guided into yoga stretches, with sessions always concluding with mindful meditation.
This program has been designed to cater for a wide range of groups, ages, backgrounds and abilities. It stands for ‘Discovering Relationships Using Music, Beliefs, Emotions, Attitudes and Thoughts’. It is a social and emotional learning program, using drums (Djembes) to work with others through teamwork and to help students develop resilience.
Students have the option of participating in 45-minute traditional music lessons. Students learn parts of the instrument, instrument tuning and playing basic cords on the guitar. Students also learn to read chord charts with intent on playing some of their favourite songs. Our music lessons are focused on positivity and enjoyment with the hope that these lessons spark interest in students to continue learning, practising, and playing music beyond school. Students participating in Music lessons regularly formulate a band and showcase their skills at the end of the school year. Choir practise is a new option open to be trialled with interested students in 2024
Our dedicated team are proud of the contribution they make in providing a positive learning environment where students can fulfil their potential both as individuals and within the community. I welcome you to visit our centre and encourage you to contact us for further information.
